A Flying Adventure

The day was a beautiful day for flying - CAVU. The Mid-western weather had been very bad for the past two weeks and all the local pilots had a case of "cabin fever". Since the area was under an approaching summer high pressure system the weather was expected to remain VFR for the next several days. Dwight had an idea - lets organize a flying adventure that would include several points of interest and span the next few days. Mark seconded the idea and the rest of the crew scattered to see how bad there wives would complain about their absence. Jessica and Keith remained since they did not have spouses. They immediately started planning the venture.

So they took out a stack of paper and began to make paper airplanes.  They folded and folded and folded some more.  Soon they each had a plane they could fly.

Mitchell suggested that they launch the planes from the rooftop, so everyone clambered up onto the roof and let loose with a barrage of the wispy white winged things.  All too soon their supply was exhausted; most lay below on the ground, but others were caught in the overhanging trees, frozen in flight.

When Dwight and the other pilots returned and saw that the planning had taken the form of paper plane flying they quickly organized a planning committee (PC) consisting of Jerry, Chuck and Tom.  Where to fly and where to stay was the charter.  Mitchell spent the time picking up the wispy white things but Jacob and David helped too.

The aircraft to be used had a speed spectrum of 90 to 180 knots and the PC determined that the slowest had to reach the destination on one fuel load.  This constricted the radius around KANQ to 350 nautical miles.

Considering the winds and the weather the crew decided to head West as that would allow them to have the winds and the afternoon sun at their tails for the return flight.  Now the only thing left to do was to pick a destination.

Oshkosh - could it be any other place for pilots of a varied flock?  Not at the time of the annual convention but at a time when they could have the field to themselves.  It had all the ingredents for a multi-points-of-interest theme but with Experimental Aircraft Association focus.  Off they were to Oshkosh!

Some went "direct", mostly twins (who think they own the sky: according to Dwight whose T-shirt proclames the same) and some via Chicago skyline.  A few took the long route to the West of Chicago and stopped for lunch at 94th Aero at Pal-Waukee.
